image of men around the prophet postWell overdue! This is the last part of the men around the Prophet (saw) series, here more things that you may or may not have known. Either way we can always take lessons from it and improve ourselves.

Ikrimah (ra)

Did you know he was the son of Abu Jahal (the greatest enemy of Islam), became one of the greatest warriors of Islam? He would cry and kiss the mushaf (copy of the Qur’an) and say ‘these are the words of my Lord’. SubhanAllah!

Khawla Bint Al Azwar (ra)

Did you know she was the woman warrior who broke into the enemy lines and fought fiercely against the Romans in the Battle of Ajnadin, near Jerusalem? She was admired by everyone, men and women alike. She was later married to the fourth Khaleefah Ali (ra).

Did you know immediately after the prophet’s (saw) death, a man named Thulaihah Bin Khuwailid Al Asadi claimed prophethood but later repented and became one of Islam’s finest warriors and martyrs?

Abbad Ibn Bishr (ra)

Did you know he was only fifteen (15) years of age when he accepted Islam at the hands of Musab Bin Umayr (ra) before the hijra? He was taken aback by the beauty of the Qur’an and immediately embraced Islam. He was known for his devotion to ‘ibadah (worship), knowledge and courage in battle. Abbad (ra) was such a good reciter of the Qur’an, that other sahaba called him ‘the friend of the Qur’an’. He fought courageously and was instrumental in the battle against Musailama al Kadhdhab but was martyred in the same battle. Although he was martyred at a young age, he showed what living in true imaan meant. A’isha, the mother of believers said about him, “There are three persons among the Ansar whom no one could excel in virtue: Sa’ad ibn Muadh, Usayd ibn Khudayr, and Abbad ibn Bishr.”

That concludes the series of men around the beloved Prophet (saw).
