The declaration of faith (Shahadah) is the first thing a muslim must declare once they have come to a definite conclusion about the existence of Allah.

Bearing testimony to the fact that there is only one creator is the starting point for any muslim. What follows after that are a few things. That is called the 6 pillars of Iman (Arkanul Imaan) as found in the Hadith of Jibreel.

One day while the Prophet was sitting in the company of some people, (The angel) Gabriel came and asked, “What is faith?” Allah’s Apostle replied, ‘Faith is to believe in Allah, His angels, (the) meeting with Him, His Apostles, and to believe in Resurrection.’

Sahih Bukhari, Reported by Abu Hurairah.

Once the Shahadah has been taken it is compulsory to believe in all the above 6 things.
